We believe in a world where everyone deserves a chance for a better future – regardless of who they are, what they look like, or where they come from.

Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King’s work and vision, the Beloved Community is a tangible expression of our collective pursuit of justice, opportunity, and equality. Together we have the power to create positive change.

Habitat Charlotte Region’s Beloved Community initiative is a collection of events that bring together a diverse array of partners from across the area to help build a brighter, more just Charlotte Region. It is grounded by the immense opportunity created through affordable housing for families historically left out of America’s dream of prosperity.

then & now

February is Black History Month, and Habitat Charlotte Region grows communities through our Beloved Community initiatives in historically black areas of our region every day.

The Meadows at Plato Price

Named for the Plato Price school, the Meadows at Plato Price will sit in a historically significant area of west Charlotte. Plato Price School closed in the 1960s when desegregation took hold, and the land lay vacant until the City of Charlotte donated it to Habitat in 2018. Soon, the Meadows at Plato Price will rise up as a thriving community within this historically African American neighborhood.

Building Futures Symposium - March 14th, 2023

The 2023 Building Futures Symposium hosted by Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region will take place at the Dale F. Halton Theater on the Central Piedmont Community College campus in Charlotte, on March 14th.

Each year Habitat Charlotte Region hosts the symposium on affordable housing to hear from industry experts and regional panelists that can provide insight into the ongoing affordable housing crisis that affects our North Carolina region and much of the country.

This year’s speaker will be “pathfinder, writer, and facilitator” Mia Birdsong. Mia is a community curator and storyteller who steadily engages the leadership and wisdom of people experiencing injustice to chart new visions of American life.

spring coffee, conversation & connection

The event will take place in Mooresville, North Carolina. Breakfast will be provided, and attendees will have a chance to hear from some of those who have received critical home repairs in Statesville, Mooresville, and Cornelius and listen to Habitat Charlotte Region leadership.
