The Future of Hope Springs: Updates

By Kailey Truczinskas

Hope Springs Development Celebrates New Milestones: Prayer Walk and Wall-Raising Kick-Off Mark Major Progress

Exciting things are happening at the Hope Springs development in North Charlotte, where Habitat Charlotte Region, in partnership with Greater Bethel AME Church, continues to make strides in creating a transformative, affordable housing community. Recently, two key events took place to celebrate the progress of this project: a meaningful Prayer Walk and a wall-raising kick-off that officially marked the start of vertical construction.

A Blessing for the Site: The Prayer Walk

Before construction reached new heights, the Hope Springs site was blessed with a Prayer Walk led by members of Greater Bethel AME Church and Habitat Charlotte Region. The walk, attended by approximately 100 people, included heartfelt prayers for the future homeowners, the community, and the success of the project. The Prayer Walk featured four faith leaders guiding prayer stations, including:

  • Dr. Abdue Knox, Greater Bethel AME Church
  • Rev. Nikki Zimmerman, Covenant Presbyterian Church
  • Rev. Brandon Dirks, Providence UMC
  • Rev. Erika Funk, Myers Park Presbyterian Church

Together, they prayed for 11 future Hope Springs homeowners, asking for blessings, protection, and divine guidance as the development moves forward. The Prayer Walk symbolized the spiritual foundation and unity behind this project.

Wall-Raising Kick-Off: Vertical Construction Begins

In a significant milestone for the Hope Springs development, Habitat Charlotte Region and Greater Bethel AME Church officially kicked off vertical construction for the first three homes at the site. On March 7th, 2025, the first walls were raised at 9:30 AM, marking the start of an exciting new phase for this transformative community. Up to 60 volunteers from various partner organizations came together to participate in this event, with their hard work and dedication symbolizing the community spirit driving the project forward.

The Hope Springs project, a collaboration between Habitat Charlotte Region and Greater Bethel AME Church, is set to provide up to 29 homes on the church’s 9-acre tract of land. This initiative is more than just a housing development—it is about creating a strong, sustainable community that enhances the lives of local residents and improves connectivity for first responders.
