MOORESVILLE – There were prayers, speeches, smiles and hugs as four new owners received house keys during dedication ceremonies for Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region’s new six-plex townhome project on Mills Avenue. But the clearest message from the celebration was captured in just a few words delivered by a volunteer.
As he prepared to deliver townhouse keys to an anxious Aura Ramirez, building team member Chris Cashwell sensed what her emotional reaction might be, and with a comforting smile and soft tone, shared this summary of what she and everyone else on the Habitat team had invested in the project.
“A little bit of blood, a lot of sweat, but no tears,” Cashwell reminded Ramirez. And as the audience applauded, she clinched the keys and joined fellow new owners Kameron Brooks, Lafreda Pinkston and Amber Stinson in opening the doors to new chapters of their lives.
