November Advocacy Updates
Written by: Faith Triggs
Now that the elections are over, the issues impacting affordable homeownership in our region continue to be top-of-mind. As we prepare to move into 2026, Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region will remain engaged by educating, advocating, and supporting policies that expand affordable housing opportunities throughout our service areas.

There are numerous advocacy issues that we prioritize including:
- Homeownership affordability
- Borrower’s access to credit
- Down payment assistance
- Affordable land acquisition to build affordable homes
- Building costs
- Local, State and Federal housing policies
- Weather/Disaster impacts on regions (such as hurricanes, storms, fires)
- Property Insurance and
- Property Taxes
The list is not complete, and changes based on the political, economic, and social constraints. Thus, Habitat must be nimble, flexible, and engaged.
As we continue to expand on solutions to these issues by engaging with the community, elected officials, business leaders and other non-profits, Habitat also wants to make sure that YOU are involved. We do this by providing Advocacy Trainings for those interested in learning more about affordable housing and how to have an influence in your community in partnership with Habitat.
Ultimately, we will not build our way out of this housing crisis. But we can continue to provide a blueprint for our leaders so that our involvement (including yours), has a long-term impact and keeps the dream of homeownership alive for the next generation.
