Our Story and Mission

What began as a mission to provide affordable homeownership one house at a time has evolved into something much greater. Habitat Charlotte Region has grown from building individual homes to developing entire neighborhoods—creating vibrant, thriving communities where families can build stability and a brighter future.

Habitat Charlotte Region addresses the challenges of affordable homeownership, critical home repair, and fair housing head on—leading partners and supporters in building communities with equitable access to housing. Since 1983, we’ve empowered over 5,000 families in Mecklenburg, Iredell, and Gaston counties by developing affordable communities, advancing financial literacy, and promoting intergenerational wealth.

In addition to serving local families, Habitat Charlotte Region partners with Habitat affiliates in Cambodia, Guatemala, and El Salvador to help build safe, affordable homes. Each year, 10% of our unrestricted income supports these international partnerships.
