Habitat Young Professionals (HYP) strives to provide affordable housing to families in our community while cultivating a strong network of future leaders. 100% of HYP membership dues and money raised through fundraising activities will be used to fund member activities, including socials, fundraising events, volunteer days, and other member events, with the remaining funds supporting Habitat Charlotte Region’s mission.

Meet the HYP Charlotte Board
The HYP board is comprised of current HYP members that have made a two-year commitment to serve the organization in a leadership role. These members go above and beyond in fundraising, volunteer and social efforts to ensure that all HYP members get the most out of their membership, while also doing the most good in the community through Habitat Charlotte.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a board member with Habitat Young Professionals (HYP) Charlotte! HYP Charlotte’s mission is to make affordable housing a matter of conscience and encourage a spirit of service in our community by engaging young professionals to advocate, volunteer and give within their means.
The HYP Charlotte Board is a working board that is made up of 14 members. As a working board, our board members are actively involved in running networking events, fundraisers and volunteer days. Read on for Board roles, expectations and more!
HYP Board Members:
Must maintain an active HYP membership (Give what you can; $15 per month OR $150 per year)
Board members are also expected to contribute $1,000 annually outside of their board membership contribution via the “Give or Get” model. This means allowing more individuals or corporations to give directly to the organization or introduce donors to HYP that give directly as a result of the board member’s efforts.
- Must attend the Board member orientation
- Must attend Full Day Board Retreat in August
- Must attend at least 10 Board meetings per year (12 total; meetings are monthly)
- Must attend at least 6 HYP social events per year Thursday Social, Saturday Builds, or other events held throughout the
Open Board Positions
1st Vice Chair
Executive Board Position
- Focus on supporting the “face” of HYP through supporting membership growth, increasing communications presence, increasing event attendance and deepening partnerships in the local community.
2nd Vice Chair
Executive Board Position
- Focus on supporting the “engine” of HYP through supporting membership stewardship and operations, ensuring board collaboration and communication, creating sustainable processes and procedures and ensuring the operations of HYP stay fluid.
Secretary / Treasurer
Executive Board Position
- Record minutes and roll call for all HYP Board Meetings & Events
- Detailed minutes for chair updates
- Demarcation of votes
- Action items with proper accountability to applicable board members
- Own the HYP Charter and its adherence
- Track board member terms
- Work with Membership Chairs to maintain proper member records
- Work with Events Chairs to maintain event attendance
- Send all calendar invites for HYP Board Meetings, Events & Membership Functions
- Own HYP’s fiduciary responsibility through:
- Preparation of Annual Budget
- Tracking of month-over-month income v. expenses
- Processing of reimbursement requests
- Tracking of sponsorship and donor payments
Membership Chair
At-Large Board Position
- Develop the HYP Membership growth strategy through creating active and passive channels for acquiring new donors through social media campaigns, membership events and stewardship of HYP non-members attending events or volunteering.
- Own the member stewardship process through welcoming new members, engaging with long-time members and recovering lapsed payment/cancelled memberships.
- Design and deliver quarterly correspondence to members (thank you notes, requests for renewal, etc.)
- Formulate tiered membership strategy to parlay into Development efforts.
Development Chair
At-Large Board Position
- Own HYP’s strategic fundraising plan over the course of the FY through
- Sponsorship/Partnership offerings for year-round and event-specific opportunities
- Giving Campaign opportunities at CYE and FYE to steward additional dollars beyond membership dues
- Identification of additional revenue streams during events to increase overall fundraising effort for the organization.
- Work in partnership with Membership Chair to understand member base and develop pipeline plans for strategic contacts.
- Present monthly development reports including gifts secured, solicited, and in-progress of building the case for support
Volunteer Chair
At-Large Board Position
- Coordinate with affiliate volunteer management teams to secure HYP Build and ReStore volunteer opportunities on regular cadence
- Own communication with volunteers leading up to and on volunteer day to ensure logistics and details are properly communicated
- Find ways to express gratitude to volunteers.

Certain expectations are required for any HYP member seeking to serve on one or more of our various committees.
They are as follows:
- Attend at least 6 HYP Charlotte events or volunteer opportunities each year
- Maintain an active paid membership in HYP

- Represent HYP Charlotte at HYP Charlotte volunteer events.
- Help assist with improving the volunteer experience at HYP events.
- Assist with recordkeeping of HYP volunteer event performance.
Development Committee
- Develop relationships with potential donors to HYP
- Research and establish communication with HYP donors
Events Committee
- Assist with logistics of HYP Charlotte’s large fundraisers and monthly events
- Help plan and devise new events for HYP Charlotte
Marketing Committee
- Create and gather content
- Write monthly newsletters
- Help design and create Tiktoks
- Help design and create the social media strategy
