Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region Announces Selection of New Chief Executive Officer

Bryant Owens and Laura Belcher

Charlotte, NC — Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region today announced that its Board of Directors has unanimously selected Bryant Owens as the organization’s next Chief Executive Officer, leading Habitat into its next chapter of impact, growth, and service.

Owens will succeed Laura Belcher, who has served the organization with distinction for more than 12 years. Owens, who will become the sixth CEO in the organization’s 43-year history, will officially assume the role on September 30, 2026, following a comprehensive national search led by a board-appointed search committee in partnership with NEXSUS Search Partners.

Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region remains steadfast in its mission to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope, helping families achieve strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership. As housing affordability and access continue to reach crisis levels locally, nationally, and globally, the Board sought a leader who could build on the organization’s momentum while positioning Habitat for continued growth, innovation, and impact.

“After an extensive and thoughtful search, we are thrilled to welcome Bryant, a leader whose experience and passion align so deeply with Habitat’s mission. Bryant brings more than 30 years of leadership in financial services – most recently with Wells Fargo, along with a strong commitment to community impact through service on multiple nonprofit boards.

“We are confident Bryant is the right person to lead Habitat Charlotte Region into the future. Leadership transitions are significant moments in the life of any organization. While we celebrate Laura’s remarkable legacy with deep gratitude, we are equally excited to welcome Bryant Owens and the passion, experience, and leadership he will bring to our mission. The need for affordable housing has never been greater, and we are confident that, together, we will continue building homes, communities, and hope for generations to come,”

said Jason Rutherford, Board Chair and representative of the search committee.

Owens expressed enthusiasm for joining the organization and advancing its mission.

“I am honored to have been selected to lead Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region. Habitat’s work transforming lives through affordable homeownership is both inspiring and essential. I look forward to working alongside the dedicated staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners to expand access to safe, affordable housing and strengthen neighborhoods across our region.”
