Red Vest Way

Red Vest Way holds a special place in Habitat Charlotte Region’s history as our very first raw land development. Located off Sunset Road near I-77, this community is built around a quiet cul-de-sac creating a safe, welcoming environment for families to call home.

With 21 homes, Red Vest Way marked a major milestone in our mission to provide affordable homeownership opportunities. The neighborhood’s name celebrates this project’s largest financial supporter and long-term partner, Lowe’s. The iconic red vest worn by Lowe’s associates became a symbol of partnership and generosity, as countless Lowe’s employees not only funded the development through a multi-year, $1.1 million Charlotte Impact Project investment, but also volunteered over 600 hours of their time and skills to help build it.

During the home dedication, Habitat Charlotte and Lowe’s proudly unveiled the street name in honor of Lowe’s Heroes volunteers and their commitment to building safe, affordable housing. As Lowe’s EVP of Supply Chain Don Frieson shared, “Not only do we want to be a responsible retailer, we also want to be a responsible citizen. This is our piece of supporting the housing crisis here in Charlotte.”

Construction was completed in late 2019, opening the door for 21 families to achieve stability and a brighter future. More than a neighborhood, Red Vest Way stands as a powerful example of what’s possible when corporate partners, volunteers, and the community unite to make homeownership a reality.
