The November 5th general election makes for a long ballot. From voting for the president of the United States, congressional and state candidates, county and locally elected positions, to various bond and other amendments: you might want to pack a lunch. Key items like the housing bond (for City of Charlotte voters) are at the bottom of the ballot, so make sure you complete the entire thing!

Seriously: our civic duty to vote is a big deal, so for the elections that require more of our engagement at the ballot, buckle up.

Below is a Check List of some tasks you may want to consider to be prepared when you vote on Election Day: Tuesday, Nov. 5th.

2024 voter’s checklist

  • Confirm that you are registered to vote before the deadline
  • Review the ballot as soon as you can and well before election day so that you are not overwhelmed
  • Make sure you have the proper photo identification
  • Make sure you confirm the location of your polling place
  • If needed, confirm transportation assistance a few days before Nov. 5th
  • Arrive as early as you can on election day and be prepared to wait in line (check ahead of time with your employer to confirm if they have “paid time-off” to vote)
  • Confirm ahead of time if you can bring water/snacks/lawn chair to your polling place just in case you need to wait awhile in line
  • Consider bringing a written list of the candidates and measures you want to vote for so that you can verify your list with the ballot
  • Take your time, don’t rush and don’t worry how long it takes for you to finish the ballot
  • Don’t forget your reading glasses
  • From start to finish, follow the instructions of the poll workers, and feel free to ask questions if you have them. They are there to help!
  • Once you have completed the ballot, turn it in to get it processed and verify your vote
  • Thank your poll workers for their service
  • Don’t forget to get your “I Voted” Sticker and wear it proudly
  • Have a great rest of your day!
