Dixon Village
Dixon Village is a 7.5-acre mixed-income community in North Belmont, NC, named in honor of the late Bill Dixon—a philanthropic leader devoted to serving others and supporting local nonprofits in the greater Gaston community. The land was generously donated to Habitat in 2000 by Geneva Abernathy, a lifelong educator who taught in Gaston County schools. The main street in Dixon Village is named after her. Belmont City Council approved the development in 2021, ensuring their legacy of community and service lives on.
The neighborhood includes 28 two-story single-family homes— a third sold through the Habitat Homebuyer Program with affordable mortgages and the remaining at market rate—fostering an inclusive neighborhood for families of diverse backgrounds.
Built through a partnership between Habitat for Humanity of Gaston County and Thomas Construction and Restoration, Inc., Dixon Village demonstrates the power of collaboration to expand affordable homeownership while maintaining quality and curb appeal.
The neighborhood offers 6 Craftsman-style floorplans featuring 1,400+ sqft, with 3–4 bedrooms and 2–2.5 bathrooms. Architectural details such as extended front porches, green spaces, picnic tables, walking trail, and playground expand the neighborhood’s charm to create a family-friendly community in harmony with nature and legacy.
Construction began in late 2021 and was completed in 2024.
