Hope Springs
Originally purchased from Greater Bethel AME Church in 2022, this 9-acre property—now known as Hope Springs and located off Peachtree Rd near I-77—began as a single modest home built in the 1960s. For decades, it provided refuge for church members and families in urgent need of housing.
After years of deterioration, the church was determined to make better use of this land and find a way to repurpose it to something impactful for the local community. Rather than selling it to a market-rate developer or homebuilder, the church felt the best option was to sell the land at a greatly discounted price to Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region to transform it into something extraordinary for their affordable homeownership program.
Through collaboration with city and county officials, Habitat, and the church, plans were set to redevelop the property into 29 new single-family homes, with additional street connections being added to two nearby existing neighborhoods for increased connectivity, forming the new Hope Springs community.
As part of the purchase agreement, one home at the community entrance will be sold to Greater Bethel AME Church for just $1, allowing the church to use it as needed. This choice—prioritizing community impact over profit—reflects a profound act of generosity and intentionality. By partnering with Habitat, the church helped ensure that 28 families will have access to brand-new, affordable homes, creating lasting change for generations to come.
By the end of 2025, nine families will have purchased their homes, with 18 more homes underway for Phase 2. The development is currently projected to be completed by the end of 2026.
