Habitat Charlotte Region’s brand-new Playhouse Build is a fun and meaningful way to volunteer with colleagues and friends and create a safe place for children to play, all while raising funds for more affordable housing in the community. Volunteer teams come together to construct and paint playhouses that are then given to local Habitat families, veteran and active duty military families, and other local nonprofits.

Habitat Charlotte Region’s Playhouse Build is designed to offer a creative and meaningful team building experience for corporate partners who might not be able to commit their employees off-site for an entire traditional build day on a Habitat construction project. A Playhouse Build is a half-day event building and decorating durable playhouses, with groups of 6-8 people per playhouse. Corporate partners will be in charge of creating the paint design and decoration based on the preferences of the child(ren). With flexible scheduling, this is a great engagement option for teams and events of any sizes.

Teams contribute a tax-deductible donation of $2,500 per playhouse to offset associated costs and also further the mission of Habitat Charlotte Region.

Playhouses provide a secret world where children can use their imagination to foster development, leadership and creativity. Playhouses are built by Habitat Charlotte Region’s corporate & community partners and offered to children of:

Habitat homeowners
local veterans and active duty military personnel
families referred by local organizations.

We are looking for families and organizations that would like to receive a personalized playhouse from Habitat Charlotte Region and our generous partners. Habitat Charlotte Region shares a vision of empowerment through shelter and are proud to provide a home for your child’s imagination!

We process all Playhouse applications in the order they are received. Due to the number of applicants, there is no guaranteed response time, so we appreciate your patience, flexibility and understanding. Please note that approved families receiving a playhouse will need to sign a photographic & recording release. Please read through this application to see if a playhouse is right for your family. Application Agreement & Submission
In order to complete and submit the Playhouse application, please read below thoroughly and check that you agree to each item.*
- I agree that I will have my child(ren) at the playhouse presentation. Location and time will be determined and agreed upon at least one week prior to the presentation date.
- I understand that both Habitat Charlotte Region and the sponsor will take photos of my family and/or child(ren) with the playhouse builders, and that these photos will be shared with Habitat Charlotte Region supporters.
- I understand the size of the playhouse is 4’ wide x 5’ long x 6’ high and that it is made of wood.
- I confirm I have space for it at my house and I have verified that it will fit through any doors or gates in order to place in my backyard.
- I agree to pick up the playhouse if possible. If I am not able to pick up, I will notify the appropriate Habitat Charlotte Region staff person at least one week prior to the playhouse build date.
- I understand that the playhouse may not be dry by the pick-up time, and that there may be a short wait until it dries.
- I understand that Habitat Charlotte Region reaches out to many organizations to find families to receive playhouses, and I may not receive one at the original specified date or location. If this happens, I understand that I will be placed on a waiting list.
- I understand that media may be present, and that I may be asked to speak to the media. If I am not comfortable speaking with the media, I will communicate that to Habitat Charlotte Regionstaff.
