General Construction

Get started right away. No construction experience necessary; our skilled site supervisors provide on-site instruction to help get you started.

Training Needed: Provided on-site

Book Drives

Book sales build houses. Help us publicize book drives or collect books in local neighborhoods.

Training Needed: Provided on-site
Time Commitment: Three-hour shifts seasonally

ongoing volunteer opportunities

Regular Weekday Crew

Are you experienced in construction or would like to learn more in depth? Weekday crew members choose one day per week as their regular volunteer day. Tasks are assigned each Tuesday.

Training Needed: Volunteer orientation, plus on-site training
Time Commitment: Twice per month


Habitat Host

Do you enjoy meeting new people? Are you an early riser? Site hosts spend a couple of hours on a construction site greeting volunteers, assisting with volunteer sign-in, distributing tools and educating others about Habitat Charlotte Region. Afterward, hosts are welcome to join volunteers in the day’s tasks. Habitat Hosts may also be asked to help at volunteer fairs, community and other special occasions.

Training Needed: Volunteer orientation, plus 1-3 staff-assisted trainings
Time Commitment: One day every other month, minimum


Task Leader

Task leaders assist Habitat Charlotte Region staff in leading small groups of 4-5 volunteers in particular construction tasks on-site. Great opportunity for volunteers with construction experience and leadership skills.

Training Needed: Volunteer orientation, plus 3 staff-assisted trainings specific to the construction task
Time Commitment: One day every other month, minimum

ReStore/Julia's Café & Books

You don’t have to swing a hammer to make a difference! Habitat Charlotte Region has many volunteer opportunities available through the Charlotte Region ReStores and Julia’s Café & Books.

COVID-19 Volunteer Update

Habitat Charlotte Region welcomes all volunteers at this time!

In response to Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are continuing to take the following precautions:

  • In accordance with the CDC’s recommendation, Habitat Charlotte Region requires masks for those unvaccinated. Masks are required for all when social distancing is not possible. Habitat Charlotte Region is mask friendly and encourages masks.
  • 6-15 volunteers on site with a total of 20 people on site as we adjust to changing conditions
  • Sanitation supplies available
  • These protocols will be sent to volunteers before shifts
  • Read the full COVID-19 Safety Protocols here; protocols apply to fully-vaccinated and non-vaccinated volunteers alike
